Boy, 18, Shoots Himself Dead

AN EIGHTEEN–YEAR-OLD man with no record of psychiatric disorder has shot himself to death at Sangnayili, a remote community near Bimbila, the capital of the Nanumba North District in the Northern Region.

Nwelgnel Yegbaja, allegedly shot himself in the left rib with a local gun at a farmland on Monday, sparking fresh sorrow among residents who were still mourning the death of another man killed by bushfire last week.

Assembly member for the Juo Electoral Area, Alfred Nchima, called the police after the deceased was found lying face down in a pool of blood.

Narrating the incident to the police, a brother of the deceased said they had scheduled a routine night hunting of birds before Yegbaja quietly left the house on the brother’s blindside.

The brother said Yegbaja left their house at about 8:00p.m. when they were preparing for the hunting and did not return until a search party found him dead in a bush with his weapon beside him.

He told the police he strongly believed that his brother committed suicide but was surprised because he had no records of mental disorder.

The body has since been deposited at the Bimbila Government Hospital morgue and the police have begun investigation into the circumstances that led to his death.

District Crime Officer ASP Ebenezer Peprah confirmed the incident, adding that the police had launched a wide investigation into the matter.

According to him, suicide cases are uncommon in the district and the police will interrogate broadly to unravel what prompted the incident.
