24 'Wee' Peddlers Grabbed

Twenty-Four people, including three women, have been busted for allegedly possessing dried leaves, suspected to be Indian hemp, in a swoop by the Madina Divisional Police, in Accra yesterday.

The exercise aimed at flushing out the criminals from their dens.

The suspects, who were between the ages of 18 and 26, were arrested at the ACP flower spot, Taifa park, Abuom Junction, Kwabenya Cemetery, Parakou Estate, Kissima, and Obojo American School area.

Items retrieved by the police include, clubs, metals used for forcing doors open, compressed dried leaves, suspected to be Indian hemp, concealed in rubber container and wrappers of the Indian hemp.

The Divisional Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Okyere Anane-Danquah, who confirmed the arrest to The Ghanaian Times yesterday,s aid the suspects were in police custody.

He said some of the suspects were arrested red-handed smoking Indian hemp.

ACP Anane-Danquah said the exercise would be sustained to flush out the criminals, adding that the suspects would be screened and those found culpable would be put before court.

He cautioned criminals in the area to refrain from their activities and engage in profitable jobs, or would be arrested and prosecuted.

ACP Anane-Danquah asked the public to volunteer to the police to facilitate the arrest of criminals.
