The National Chairman of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Prof. Edmund Delle, has called on the rank and file of the party to stamp out divisions within the Nkrumaists front.
He said since the founder of the party, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, believed in unity and discipline, the need to stamp out divisions in the party had become critical.
Prof. Delle gave the advice when he inaugurated a Biometric and Membership Drive Centre to coincide with the commemoration of the forty fifth anniversary of the death of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, which occurred on Thursday, April 27, 1972.
The biometric centre is also aimed at streamlining the handling and management of the party’s funds and assets.
Laying of wreaths
Earlier, leading members of the party led by the National chairman laid wreaths at the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum on behalf of the party .
Dr Francis Nkrumah, the eldest son of the late first President, laid one on behalf of his family.
Dignitaries present included Mr Felix Amoah, chairman of Council of Elders of the party, Prof Delle and Hajia Hamdatu Ibrahim, first Vice Chairman of the party.
Biometric Centre
He likened the opening of the Biometric Centre to a disciplined army ready to rise and spearhead Nkrumah’s ideas of social and economic development.
He, therefore, urged supporters and sympathisers of the party to support the leadership in the agenda for progressive change.
He advised the rank and file of the party to put the interest of the country and Ghanaians first before all others and push for total development of the country.
He explained that the inauguration signalled the readiness of the members to rebuild the party for the 2020 election.
The National Chairman said it was no coincidence that the launch had been themed ‘’Promoting membership drive now for a CPP government tomorrow’’
Prof. Delle said the anniversary to mark Nkrumah’s physical demise was a wake up call on members to work hard to restore his ideas and rebuild the party, the vanguard of the working people.
In the trenches
He said the supporters and leadership should be prepared to be in the trenches to fight against the neo-liberal and neo-colonial order imposed on the country since 1966.
Prof. Delle challenged Ghanaians to take charge of the destiny of the country, since Ghanaians ought to manage their own affairs and lead in economic investment and management of the national economy and natural environment.
He said Ghanaians should own the resources of the country and not foreigners as Dr Osagyefo inculcated in Ghanaians and take good care of them for posterity.
Epitomised change
He said Dr Nkrumah succumbed to both the physical cancer of wounds he sustained from the bombings he suffered from enemies of the African revolution and the Ghana project which he led.
Prof. Delle said apart from the cancer of the bombings Nkrumah suffered he died from betrayal by some of his countrymen.
He noted that Dr Nkrumah epitomised change and stood for truth and creativity and that would continue to be the reference point for Nkrumaists.
