2 Remanded For Robbery

An Accra circuit court has remanded two persons for conspiracy to commit crime and robbery.

Kwabena Ofori,a car dealer, and William Ponto, a trader, both pleaded not guilty, and will appear again on May 10.

Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) George Amega told the court that the complainant is a Ghanaian based in the United States, and doubles as a car dealer in Ghana.

He said on April 13, Ponto linked the complainant on phone to one ‘Dr Bonsu’, who was interested in buying the complainant’s unregistered Toyota Camry.

DSP Amega said Dr Bonsu agreed to meet the complainant on April 14 to inspect the car, following the arrangement, and the complainant on the same day at noon drove the car to the Royal Fiesta Hotel area, where he met with Ofori, who identified himself as Dr Bonsu.

The court heard that they all boarded the car for a test drive and having driven to a quiet area, Kwabena took over the car to test drive and have a feel of it himself.

He said when Ofori got to a portion of the road where they were test-driving, he pointed a pistol at the complainant, thereby forcing him out of the car.

Ofori, therefore, sped off with the car, and the complainant reported him to the police.

Ofori, who was arrested in course of investigations, was identified by the complainant during an identification parade, and Ponto was subsequently apprehended.
