Veterans in C/R observe Remembrance Day

A contingent of 180 officers and men drawn from the Military, Police, Prisons and Fire services and security guards of Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly and cadet corps of St. Augustine's and Adisadel colleges, on Wednesday mounted a parade to mark the 64th Remembrance day in the Central Region. The parade was mounted under the command of Captain Alex Cann, of the 64th Infantry Regiment in Takoradi, at the forecourt of the Cape Coast Castle. Mrs. Ama Benyiwa-Doe, Regional Minister, laid a wreath on behalf of the Government and people of Ghana, the Deputy Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Lartey, for security services, Nana Kwamena Nyimfa, Adontenhene of the Oguaa Traditional Area, for the chiefs and people of the area and Mr. Abraham Konduah, Regional Chairman of the Veterans' Association of Ghana (VAG) on behalf of all veterans. Mr. Konduah, also read the 'Binyon' verse, which signified the call for remembrance of the "departed soldiers". At exactly 11.00 am, the bugle sounded the last post, amidst the tolling of a church bell, and a two-minute silence observed for the "fallen heroes".
