Phone Tracker Exposes Robber

A member of a robbery gang that attacked and robbed students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) of their money, phones and television set, has been seized and detained by the police.

Mallam Sulemana, together with three other persons on the run – Kojo, Abass and Akwasi, raided a hostel at Ayeduase, held the victim students hostage at gunpoint, forcibly seized their cash and valuables.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Kennedy Yeboah, the Ashanti Regional Commander, told journalists that the incident happened yesterday (Monday) at dawn.

The police received information about the robbery at about 0300 hours.
He said they quickly responded but before they could get to the place, the robbers had fled their booty - unspecified amount of cash and other valuables.

DCOP Yeboah said through a device in one of the stolen phones, the police were able to track down and arrest Sulemana.
A search conducted in his room uncovered two locally made pistols, 10 live cartridges and a spent one, two Nokia phones, radio speaker and a lady’s wrist watch.

The suspected robber, he said, had confessed to the crime in his caution statement to investigators.

DCOP Yeboah declared his fugitive accomplices wanted and vowed to do everything to arrest and bring them to justice.
Separately, a middle aged man, Issa Mohammed, alias ‘Koodey’, being sought for his alleged involvement in a murder case has also been nabbed by the police.

He is reported to have attacked and inflicted deep cutlass wounds on one Richard Apuuri aided by his son, now on the run.

The victim died of his wounds at the hospital, where he had been rushed for medical help.
DCOP Yeboah has appealed to public to volunteer information for the arrest of Shaibu, the son of the suspect.
