Gender Minister, Hon. Otiko Afisah Djaba has congratulated Justice Sophia Akuffo on her appointment and swearing-in as Chief Justice of the Republic.

Mrs. Akuffo is the 13th Chief Justice of the country and the second female to occupy the position.

Hon. Otiko Djaba lauded the newly-appointed Chief Justice, stating "this is a victory for women and a significant milestone as we work to realize gender equality in the country. It is also evidence of H.E. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s commitment to eradicating gender barriers in the public sector and in the country.

"Her Ladyship Justice Akuffo’s appointment is thoroughly deserved and we are extremely proud of her. Throughout her career, she has come to be recognized and respected for her commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting the integrity of the constitution and it is testament to her efforts that all in the Judicial Service are in full support of her appointment", she added.

The Gender Minister further noted in a statement that she strongly believes Her Ladyship Justice Akuffo will effectively deliver on her mandate.

"The justice delivery system of the country has seen a facelift in the last decade through the stellar work of the former Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Georgina Wood and I want to use this opportunity to applaud her unwavering commitment to her work and to country. I have no doubt that given her track record, her successor, Her Ladyship Justice Akuffo, will continue the good work and raise the justice system of the country to even higher heights...I look forward to working with her on creating new structures and strengthening existing legislation to uphold and protect the rights of the marginalized and vulnerable in our society", she further stated.
