Koforidua Technical Institute appeals for help

The Principal of the Koforidua Technical Institute, Mr Eric Dwamena has appealed to the Government to pay attention to the needs of the school to facilitate teaching and learning. According to the Principal, the school, which was established in 1960, had no administration block and a dormitory to house the more than 820 students. Mr Dwamena said the school was therefore compelled to convert a classroom block into a dormitory. The Principal made the appeal through the Eastern Regional Minster Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, when he paid a visit to the school. He said the institute would turn 50 years next year and expressed the hope that the administration block would be built for the school to commemorate its golden jubilee. The Board Chairman of the Institute, Mr Asante Annor, said that the school runs a number of courses including carpentry, masonry, plumbing architecture and automobile. He therefore appealed to the government to award any contract to be undertaken at the school to the authorities to expose the students to practical work. Mr Ofosu-Ampofo said the attention the country was giving to technical and vocational education was not the best as compared to that of the Senior High schools (SHS) and gave the assurance that government was committed to correct the anomaly. He noted that the region has only six technical and vocational schools as against 75 SHS and said "the imbalance would be critically looked at". Mr Ofosu- Ampofo said if technical and vocational education was given the needed push, it would create job avenues for the youth to boost the economy.
