Court Punishes Man For Forging Document

A 55-year old man, who forged a building document and used that as collateral to secure a loan has been sentenced to three months imprisonment by a Kumasi Circuit Court.

Desmond Amoako was additionally ordered to pay a fine of GHC2,400.00 or in default have his prison term extended by another three months.

He had pleaded not guilty to the crime but the court, presided over by Mrs. Mary Nsenkyire, ruled otherwise.

Police Chief Inspector Hannah Acheampong said the convict gave a faked site plan of a building plot owned by another person to one Cecelia Asante, to use as collateral for a loan from KWIQPLUS Money Ventures at Santasi-Anyinam in Kumasi, in year 2013.

The said woman failed to meet the loan re-payment schedule and that forced the company to file a civil suit, seeking an order of the court to sell the building plot to offset the debt.

That when the trouble began, the real owner, George Kwame Mensah, would not let his property go – brought all the legal documents that give him title to the building plot.

KWIQPLUS, realizing that it had been duped, made a formal report to the police and Amoako was arrested.
