10 In Court Over Mosque Clashes

A Takoradi Circuit Court has remanded 10 persons including a woman into prison custody for their alleged involvement in the recent clashes at the Sekondi Central Mosque.

The accused are Salim Issah, Abdul Aziz, Aminu Sirinu, Abdul Rashid, Aminu Mohammed.

The rest are Alhassan Abdulai, Khassum Issah and Halifa Cissey.

Their pleas were not taken and would reappear on Thursday July 20.

The court presided over by Mrs Rita Doko issued a bench warrant for the arrest of two others who are at large.

It would be recalled that eight people sustained various degrees of injuries, when a faction in the Sekondi Zongo area clashed with the leadership of the mosque over the ownership of it.

The Regional Police Command intervened by dispatching patrol team to the area.

The accused persons were thus arrested and when searched a locally manufactured pistol together with two used BB cartridges, one knife and cutlasses were found on them.
