Resist Pressure To Legalise Homosexuality – MP

Rev John Ntim Fordjour, Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin South has urged parliament and government to stand its ground and resist pressure to legalize homosexuality in the country.

His comment follows reports that a group of Ghanaians abroad are collecting signatures to put pressure on government to decriminalize the act.

Speaking in an interview on Peace FM morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, Thursday, the MP said even though the pressure is increasing on government to legalise homosexuality in the country, ‘we need to be bold and condemn it’.

According to him, the group according to reports had sought to canvass support from certain powerful persons and institutions in Canada to put pressure on Ghana to decriminalise homosexuality; however ‘it will not work’.

“God in his infinite wisdom created a man and a woman to be fruitful and multiply. He didn’t create a man and a man or a woman and a woman…in Ghana, per our culture and even our constitution, this is not allowed and accepted…we should be bold to condemn and stand against this; we must resist the pressure from other countries. We must protect our constitution and the rule of law. All must rise and resist that pressure” he said.

Meanwhile, addressing a press conference in Accra, the MP called for prayers and support of all religious leaders, traditional rulers and the media to ensure that godliness is upheld.

“Let us be steadfast and uphold godly legislation. I hereby solicit the unfailing prayers and support of all religious leaders, traditional rulers and the media to ensure that godliness prevailed in our most cherished society” he said.
