Farmer goes to prison for stealing electric cables

Kwadwo Duah, a 30-year-old farmer, was on Wednesday, sentenced to 18 months in prison by the Asamankese District Magistrate's Court for stealing some cable of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG). Duah, known also as Osikani, pleaded guilty. Police Inspector Wisdom Nuworkpor, prosecuting, told the court that on May five, a security man working with the ECG at Asamankese reported that some copper cable from their yard was missing. He said on May 12, at about 2200 hours, Duah was seen carrying some cable in a white sack from the ECG yard and was arrested. However, he escaped when he was being escorted to the Police Station. But, his captors arrested four days later.
