Atta Mills Road In Bad State

Margret Darko, Suhum Municipal chief executive (MCE) in the Eastern Region, in less than five months in office, is bent on seeking permanent solutions to challenges confronting the municipality. One of her major challenges is the deplorable state of the roads in the area.

The only by-pass at Suhum leading to koforidua, the regional capital, constructed under the National Democratic Congress (NDC)administration with supervision by the former municipal chief executive, Fletcher Kwasi, has been described by the many commuters and motorists as “shoddy.”

According to them, Mr. Kwabi did not consider value for money.
The by-pass, named after former president professor John Evans Atta Mills in 2011, was supposed to ease the heavy vehicular traffic in the Suhum Township.

An engineer5, whose name was given as Larbi, who inspected the road with Ms Margaret Darko, described the project as lacking proper expertise and that it’s bad state is the result of “technical bankruptcy.”

According to him, a bridge on the road near St Theresa’s Catholic Church, was not properly constructed.

Mr. Larbi told Ms Margaret Darko that the bridge was supposed to have two culverts instead of the only one laid.

This, he said, had been causing flooding in the area and contributing to the deplorable state of the road.

The MCE appreciated the technical briefing by Engineer Larbi and promised her support in finding a permanent solution to the challenge.

She advised all the residents to put away their political gowns and support her and the assembly to uplift the image of the municipality.
