Editorial: Investigations Into Contract Killings

It has come as a great shock to Ghanaians that killings that took place in the country during the NPP regime were allegedly contracted by politicians to eliminate their opponents. Though it is now a relief that the murderers have been identified with some of them arrested and facing charges, there were suspicions from the onset that those killings such as that of Mr. Roko Frimpong, a top bank official, Alhaji Issah Mobila, a CPP Northern Regional Chairman, the Ya Na and forty of this elders etc were contract killings, yet there was hardly evidence to proof them, but the truth is now being unearthed. it can be said without doubt that the arrest of the suspected killers of Mr. Frimpong and Mobila, as currently being reported in the media that the killings were politically motivated was rights. We on this paper think that though there is the hope of getting to the bottom of the murders in the on-going investigations, the report that one of the suspects, a soldier had escaped cannot be imagined. The fact that the suspects were arrested and questioned but managed to escape shows that het NPP government had intended to let the killers of the hook, and did not take any measures to ensure that they faced the full rigors of the law.
