We’ll Connect The Country With Good Rail Line System – Joe Ghartey

The Minister for Railways Development, Hon. Joe Ghartey, has assured that before 2020, the rehabilitation and construction of the country’s rail line system would be improved.

“I hope and pray we would achieve that by 2020,” the sector Minister said in an interview with Peacefmonline.com.

According to Hon. Joe Ghartey, his Ministry's wish is in fulfillment of the pledge made by President Akufo-Addo and captured in the New Patriotic Party’s 2016 election Manifesto.

The Minister for Railways Development disclosed that over 200 companies so far, from countries like the United States of America, Dubai, South Africa, Switzerland, Germany, China and Ghana, have shown interest in the development of Ghana’s railways, and have submitted proposals to this effect.

As to whether Ghana will have an efficient rail line system running across the country, the minister said “we are looking at rehabilitating the old ones then we can focus on building new ones across the country. We have engineers working on that.”

Adding that “We will do what is right for the interest of the people. I have no doubt in mind that we can do that. The engineers are telling me now that there is hope for the rail line from the Volta to Accra. So I am pushing them.”
