Free SHS Money Intact

GOVERNMENT HAS released full funding for the free Senior High School (SHS) programme for this term, it has been announced.

The Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Prof. Opoku Amankwa, said rumours that the policy lacks funding are palpably false.

“The government has made full payment for the free SHS programme for this term available as I speak with you now”, he announced confidently.

The GES chieftain’s announcement comes at a time when saboteurs of the free SHS are spreading hoax reports that the policy lacks funding.

Prof. Opoku Amankwa stated emphatically that there is no iota of truth in the false reports so the public should disregard them.

According to him, the laudable policy, which had helped several Ghanaian youth to go to school free of charge, is not facing any financial problem.

Prof. Opoku Amankwa stated that suppliers of items such as text books, chalk and others have been paid 60 percent of monies due them, so far.

He explained that the 60 percent amount was paid so that “our auditors will make further checks to see if the suppliers have indeed done a good job”.

Prof. Owusu Amankwa said the remaining 40 percent would be paid to the suppliers after the auditors have approved their works.

The GES boss also said a committee had been formed to supervise and ensure that people with the right qualification do medical examination of students.

According to him, checks have revealed that medical examination of students was usually done by firms without requisite medical knowledge in the past.

Prof. Opoku Amankwa said the GES had contacted the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to assist in making sure that the right people did the medical examination of students.

He also announced that his outfit had met with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to find ways to stop power cuts in schools as soon as possible.
