Woman Arrested For Attempting To Traffic Four Girls

The Police in Assin Fosu on Thursday arrested a 28-year-old woman for engaging in child trafficking.

    The suspect, Adjoa Owusua, was caught in an attempt to traffic four girls aged between 13 and 18 to Accra to engage in petty trading without the consent of their parents

She is in Police custody waiting to be processed for court on Monday.

    Superintendent Magnus Sam of Assin Fosu District Police command who confirmed the incident to the Ghana News Agency, mentioned the victims as Judith Boampong, 13, Comfort Arthur 15, Mercy Kronkye 15, and Hannah Sam 18.

    The Police commander said the Police had information a week earlier that a woman in Assin Nyankumasi was recruiting young girls to engage in various trading activities.

    The Police in collaboration with parents of the girls and residents of the community mounted surveillance on the suspect and arrested her when they were preparing for the journey.

    He said the suspect upon interrogation confessed of her intention to send the girls to Accra without the prior notice of their parents.

    Supt. Sam advised parents to take proper care of their children and provide them with their needs to prevent them from falling prey to child traffickers.

    He advised children to heed to their advice and share their problems and challenges to grow into responsible adults.
