I Earned $1,500 In My First Fight – Ayitey Powers

Popular Ghanaian boxer Michael Okine better known as ‘Ayitey Powers’ has revealed that he earned an amount of one thousand five hundred dollars in his career fight during his stay in the national amateur team the Back Bombers.

Ayitey Powers begun his career with the Black Bombers before rising to higher heights as a professional.

In a recent interview with Andrew Adotey Tandoh on the ‘TONIGHT’ show, Ayitey revealed that he made his first dollars after his debut fight in Egypt with the team at a tournament. Powers said he was amazed that he earned so much for beating up someone.

“The first time I started boxing I traveled to Egypt by then I was with the national amateur team, by then I had never seen dollar before and after everything they gave me $1,500 dollars.”

Ayitey Powers revealed that before his voyage to Egypt, most of his friends ridiculed him with the intension to convince him quit boxing and focus on his profession as a DJ, but he rode on a deaf ear to live his dream as boxer.

“I advised myself and became serious because I realized there was money in boxing.” When they got to know that I was a boxer they started insulting that I was too old, stop boxing and continue as a DJ and so on. But after we returned from Egypt, most of them said they wanted to go and learn boxing because that was my first time in a plane.”
