NDC Should Honestly Support Free SHS - Afenyo-Markin

Member of Parliament for Efutu constituency, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin has asked the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to pledge their full commitment to President Akufo-Addo's free SHS policy.

Speaking on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' programme, Mr. Afenyo-Markin called for an honest dialogue from the opposition members saying they make clear their stance on the issue.

According to him, the NDC seems to be criticizing the government left, right and center but have not been able to establish with clarity what they are bringing on board to improve the free SHS programme.

He noted that there are indeed some shortcomings with the implementation of the programme but it is prudent for the NDC to offer contributions that will help improve and sustain it than doing everything possible to reverse the programme.

“If they’re calling for an honest dialogue, a discussion on the future of education in Ghana; then they must be seen to be honest. They should come in good faith because the politics they’re playing with it claiming the school children don’t have a place to sleep, so what should we do? Are they saying that we should withdraw the free SHS or what?” he questioned.
