Aviation Industry To Stand Out In Sub-Region …Aviation Minister

The Minister of Aviation, Hon. Cecilia Abena Dapaah, has said that the vision of His Excellency Nana Akufo Addo is to establish and flourish the Ministry of Aviation to develop Ghana`s Aviation Industry to make it competitive within the sub-region.

She disclosed this at an ICAO Council meeting which was attended by various transport and aviation ministers and was held in Abuja, Nigeria.

Various sessions relating to the theme of the Conference were held. There were discussants and moderators who tackled specific issues bothering on aviation infrastructure, financing, regulations, public private partnerships, and exploring investment opportunities of aviation infrastructure in Africa

Hon. Cecilia Abena Dapaah, moderated one of the sessions which was on theme: “Financing for Aviation through the programme for infrastructure development in Africa (PIDA)”.

She informed the forum about on-going infrastructure development at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA), especially the Airport Phase Three (T3 Project) to accommodate 5 million passengers and process 1, 200 passengers in an hour, development, construction, renovation and upgrade of regional airports in Kumasi, Tamale, Ho, Sunyani airports and Wa airstrip as well as the construction of a Modern Air Navigation Centre at the KIA among others.

She informed the meeting about Ghana`s quest to establish a home-based carrier with private participation following approval by cabinet.

She also recounted the successful hosting of the aerospace and aviation exhibition and conference in West Africa under the patronage of President Akufo Addo.

The President of the ICAO council called on member states to develop strategies for investment in Aviation and Capacity Building for Aviation Personnel and Professionals.

He also requested member states to be committed to the outcomes of previous forums and to ensure the implementation of decisions emanating from the forums.

His Excellency the Vice President reiterated the need to develop Africa`s Aviation infrastructure stressing on promoting strong collaboration between Member States and the need to create avenues for sustainable funding of Aviation infrastructure.
