Let's allow peace and unity to permeate society

Right Reverend Dr Yaw Frimpong-Manso, Moderator of General Assembly of Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) last Sunday called on Ghanaians to endeavour to allow peace and unity to permeate every facet of their lives to enable the nation enjoys peace and stability. "As we prepare to celebrate the oil find as a nation, let us put aside selfishness, prejudice, corruption, jealousy and all negative attitudes that tend to divide rather than build us up as a nation and as the body of Jesus Christ. "Let us treat others with respect and dignity, trusting that the Lord, who has brought us this far, will continue to work out His good purposes for the nation and the churches," he said. Rt. Rev. Frimpong-Manso made the call when he delivered a sermon at a thanksgiving service to climax activities marking the 40th anniversary celebration of the Bethel Congregation of the PCG at Atonsu-Gyinyase in Kumasi. The celebration was under the theme: "The Armour of God and Four Decades of Life-The Way Forward". To Christians, the Moderator said "let us put away our prejudices, arguments and divisions that do not help our forward march as a Church. Let us put the Church first and the groups as an integral part while we rise up and build the broken walls of the Church and nation". He observed that there was genuine and urgent need for unity and cohesiveness in the country because the signals were not too good, adding "Most of us have gone astray and are taking things too much for granted. "Let us rise up and build our broken walls of communality, discipline, morality, fellow-feeling, respect for civil order and authority. Let us avoid things that divide us, run away from anything that disturbs our peace and unity," he added. Mrs Theodocia Jackson, an educationist called on the Church to be youth friendly to ensure worthy future leaders for the country. She noted that with such cordial relationship between the church and the youth, they would be more respectful to the elderly while they imparted knowledge and experience to the youth.
