Nyanney Camp Accident Claims Two Lives Leaving 33 Injured

Two women died on the spot while thirty three others sustained injuries after a Metro Mass Transit (MMT) bus they were travelling on burst its front tyre at Nyanney Camp, near Yiwiabra Nkwanta in the Aowin District.

One of the deceased has been identified as Ibrahim Asana, a 45 year-old trader from Moshi Zongo in the Ashanti Region.

Both bodies have been deposited at the Enchi Government Hospital's mortuary.

Out of the thirty three passengers who sustained various degrees of injury, twenty nine are currently on admission at the same hospital receiving treatment.

The remaining four who include a pregnant woman were taken to the Asankragwa Government Hospital have since been treated and discharged.

Superintendent of Police Raymond Kofi Erzuah, Enchi District Police Commander, confirmed the accident to the Ghana News Agency.

He said on Tuesday January 2, this year, the MMT bus with registration number AW 18-09 was being driven by Emmanuel Asare, 57, from Kumasi towards the direction of Enchi.

Superintendent Erzuah said on reaching the outskirt of Nyanney Camp, some passengers alleged the driver, who was over speeding burst his front tyre which resulted in the accident at 1630 hrs.

He said all the injured including the driver were immediately sent to the Asankragwa and Enchi government hospitals for treatment, but the two women passed away while on admission.

Superintendent Erzuah said the police would invite officers from the Driver Vehicle and Licensing Authority to access the badly damaged vehicle as they continue with investigations.
