TB cases in Techiman Municipality

A total of 82 cases of tuberculosis (TB) were treated in Techiman Municipality last year whilst 75 cases are currently receiving treatment, Nana Stephen Nketia Katapila, Municipal TB Control Officer at the Holy Family Hospital disclosed on Tuesday. He said that the disease is curable and the national control programme aimed at eradicating TB from the country by the year 2015. Nana Katapila said these at a ceremony to present bicycles to 16 TB facilitators trained on causes, control and treatment of the disease in the municipality. He said that TB was not spiritual and advised people suffering from the disease to seek early treatment, which was free. Mr. Adjei Mensah, Presiding Member of Techiman Municipal Assembly, who presented the bicycles, asked the facilitators to handle them with care and pledged that assembly would support TB programmes in the area. Mr. Wiredu Kusi, acting Municipal Director of Education, noted that school children were at risk of contracting the disease and appealed to the Civic Union TB Control Programme include schools in the area in their activities. Mr. Noah Addai, Assistant Secretary of the Union, said 103 facilitators had been trained and more bicycles would be purchased. Mr. Dickson Fosu, chairman of the union said it would seek partners to address health issues in the municipality.
