The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Asante Akyem, Francis Oti Boateng has denied attacking the Asante Akyem North District Police Commander, ASP Samuel Azugu in his residence.
ASP Samuel Azugu had alleged that the DCE stormed his residence with soldiers and threatened to beat him up in the presence of his wife and kids
This comes after ASP Azugu asked a police officer to escort a 70-year-old Fulani herdsman to the hospital for treatment after he was allegedly beaten up by some soldiers in the area.
In an interview on Peace FM’s morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, Mr Oti Boateng explained that he received reports that the police commander was hindering the team’s (police and military) fight against the Fulani menace.
He therefore gave orders for the Police Commander to step aside following instructions from a certain Minister (name undisclosed).
“I got a call from the Minister in Accra demanding that the police commander steps aside because he has also received similar complaints and so I had to retire him. It is an open secret that the man was not helping our campaign . . . later the police commander called me to complain of the fact that the team manhandled the old man . . . when we went to the hospital, the doctors claim there was no sign of assault on the body and that the old man only complained of body pains . . . ”
He however denied asking the military to assault the police commander; adding “it is never true that I threatened him”
