I Appointed Amidu To Pump The "Fear Of God" In Corrupt Officials - Prez Akufo-Addo

President Nana Akufo-Addo says he appointed the Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu to instill the "fear of God" in potential corrupt officials in the country.

The President, addressing the press at a meeting at the Flagstaff House Wednesday, stated categorically that the Special Prosecutor is not instituted to embark on "witch-hunt" as feared by some critics.

According to him, the primary intention of the Special Prosecutor is to put the "fear of God" in people so as to curb corruption in the country.

President Akufo-Addo believed pumping the fear for God in the custodians of the State is a step to fighting corruption.

The President further reiterated his earnest desire to combat corruption, asking Ghanaians to "try me, produce the evidence to back the allegation and see" what his reaction will be.

" . . some people appear determined to stick their politically motivated view that there has been corruption. This surely is not a helpful practice . . . I have greater interest in my appointees not being corrupt than any critic could possibly have. Try me, produce the evidence to back the allegation and see what the reaction will be”, he said adding that "the current office holders are as likely to be investigated and prosecuted by the Special Prosecutor if a case is made out against them as past office holders. At all times, the rule of law must be adhered to”.
