It is obvious that middlemen who have been tagged as ‘Goro Boys’ are almost everywhere and especially found at government agencies. These government agencies include premises of the Driver and Licencing Authority (DVLA), Passport Office, Births and Deaths Registry and the ports.

In fact, the above are not the only places where these Goro boys operate. They can also be found at our airports.

Their activities, albeit illegal, turn to deprive the state of monies meant to be paid to the state. Their modus operandi includes operating in makeshift structures like kiosks located around the above areas and promising unsuspected customers of genuine passports, driver’s licences amongst others.

We must point out that doing business with such goro boys is illegal and one that could come with consequences such as being issued with fake driver’s licence or passports. Indeed, we have heard stories of people being deceived by these goro boys.

Thus, why we have allowed these goro boys to keep on operating at some of the above areas is something that beats the imagination of those of us at Today. Our lack of action against these recalcitrant goro boys is what has encouraged them to continue with their criminal activities.

This is where Today supports the call by the Chief Executive of the authority, Mr Kwesi Agyeman Busia, on his caution to his staff not to connive with these goro boys. We expect DVLA staff to take this warning seriously. This is because there have been too many reports of staff of DVLA colliding and conniving with these goro boys thereby encouraging them to continue with their criminal activities.

We also want to use this opportunity to urge these state agencies to seek the assistance of the police to arrest these goro boys. Such a move, we believe, will help clear goro boys from the premises of our state agencies.
