SoNA 2018: Police To Be Fully Equipped In The Next 6 Months - Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has ardently stated that the Ghana Police Service within the next six months will have at their disposal equipment needed to make their work more effective.

According to him, he is very much aware of the security matters facing the state, which have left citizens in fear due to the inability of the Police Service to bring such culprits to order.

"I do not need to repeat that crime wears no political colours . . . ", adding that the law enforcement agencies will crack down crime. 

He said that “We will give the Police the resources they need to do their job, an initial amount of Ghc 800m is being made available to procure and supply within the next six months critical modern policing equipment and gadget to enhance the capacity of the Police to enforce law and order, including 1,000 vehicles, motor bicycles and ammunitions. The equipment is to facilitate disability, mobility and improve responsiveness of the Police to ensure a safe, secure and peaceful economic and social envronement for Ghanaians to work and thrive."

He added that already a successful renegotiation of an existing contract has enabled the governement purchase 100 vehicles for the Police Service.

He said drones and helicopters will be purchased to assist the police combat violent and environmental crime.

"The crime laboratries will be modernised and properly eequipped to provide the necessary support. The police intelligent unit will also be strenghtened, the perenial problems associated with police accomodation will be tackled and a compensation package introduced to cover officersin their line of duty", he told Parliament.  

However, he indicated that motorist who drive but have failed to conform to the laws that bind them should be called to order as the laws demand of them.
