A 32-YEAR-OLD merchandise dealer is in the firm grip of the Ashaiman District Police Headquarters for allegedly selling expired items including food to the public.
The culprit, Sadia Mohammed, who resides at Zongo-Lakka, a suburb of Ashaiman was said to have continuously picked expired stuffs at the Kpone Landfill Site where manufacturers dumped them.
She would subsequently sell the expired products to the public after cleaning and taking off the expiry dates on them. She is currently assisting the Food and Drugs Authority and the police in investigations.
Some of the expired items found in her room are Dark and Lovely Pomade, Pomo, Gino Tomato Paste, Cusson Baby Powder, Geisha and Mackerel canned fishes, Indomie, Cached Cocoa Powder and Tampico Fruit Juice
Others are numerous brands of perfumes, wheat, rice, body creams, baby diapers, women’s sanitary pads, among others.
Briefing the DAILY GUIDE, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) George Antwi-Tanoh, the Crime Officer of the Ashaiman District Police Headquarters said his outfit received information that a woman was hoarding some unwholesome food items in her room which are emanating bad odour in the neighbourhood.
Following the tip off, police mounted surveillance around the house where a search revealed a variety of food items in so many fertilizer sacks that had been stored in the woman’s living room.
The police, he said, after initial investigations, checked the items and discovered that they had all expired.
“That implied that the items are no more consumable or good for usage because they have expired.”
The Crime Officer stated that the woman was arrested together with the goods and brought to the police station.
“The woman was interrogated and she disclosed that she is unemployed and goes to the Kpone Landfill Site where she picks the items and cleaned them for sale to the public,” according to ASP Antwi-Tanoh
Meanwhile, officials of FDA told DAILY GUIDE at the station that they have launched investigations into the matter and further action would be taken after investigations have been duly completed.
