Fire Razes Down Six-Bedroom House

A six-bedroom house at Asana junction, Ohene Djan, a suburb at Abesim, near Sunyani was on Tuesday morning razed down by fire.

Division Officer Two (DO II) Jonathan Ashong, the Sunyani Municipal Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) who told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani stated that the office had a distressed call from an unknown person about the incident.

He said personnel from the Command rushed to the scene, but the house had already been burnt to ashes, adding that nobody was in the house at the start of the fire and that might have caused the delay by the neighbours in calling the Fire Service.

DO II Ashong said the landlady, when contacted on phone said she was at a hospital with her sick child when she had a call on the incident.

He said the woman whose husband is abroad lived with some relatives but none of them was also at home when the fire started.

DO II Ashong said a neighbour who was far away and detected that smoke was coming out from the house raised an alarm which attracted others to the scene, saying that they tried in vain to put off the fire before the Fire Service was called at about 1100 hours.

He said the house and everything in it had totally been burnt when the Firemen arrived at the place but tried to control the fire from extending to other houses around.

DO II Ashong said there was no casualty but they were yet to commence investigation to ascertain the cause and advised the general public to be cautious and switch off and disconnect all their electrical gadgets and sockets before they leave the house and also ensure that every fire was entirely put off to avoid fire outbreaks.

DO II Ashong expressed worry about the rate of domestic and bush fire outbreaks this year, saying that they could attend to four fire cases a day.
