‘Cashew Thief’ Shot In Leg

A Man who was suspected to be a cashew thief at Yefri in the Nkoranza North District of the Brong Ahafo Region, Osman Amandu, has been shot in both legs on a cashew farm and is currently receiving treatment at the Techiman Holy Family Hospital.

Kwaku Badu 68, the cashew farmer who allegedly shot the suspect has been arrested and detained and is helping the police in investigations.

Explaining the circumstances that led to the shooting, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Brong Ahafo Regional Police Command, Chief Inspector Augustine Kinsley Oppong said Kwaku Badu is a cashew farmer at Dwenewohu, a village near Yefri in the Nkoranza North District of the Brong Ahafo Region. According to him, on 21st of February this year, Badu went to his cashew farm to pick some cashew nuts but decided to leave them in a heap on the farm and went home.

The Police Officer said because thieves had previously been stealing his nuts on the farm, Kwaku Badu decided to lay ambush on the farm in the night to protect the nuts he had harvested. At about 9:14pm, he saw Osman throwing torchlight on the farm.

Though there is a pathway through his cashew farm to other places, Badu suspected Osman to be the one who has been stealing his cashew all the time so he shouted at him and ordered him to stop but Osman refused and went on throwing the light. Badu therefore allegedly shot Osman in the legs with a single-barrel gun in his possession. He thereafter left the victim on the farm and went and reported the matter to the assembly man who later accompanied Badu to the farm and together with the victim reported the incident to the police. Osman was later issued with a police medical form for medical attention while Badu was consequently arrested and detained to help the police in their investigations
