Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, a.k.a Chairman Wontumi, has charged members of the party to elect leaders who have the special skills to manage the affairs of the party.

He said the time to start working for victory 2020 was now and that people elected to lead the party should be those who have in all things shown their readiness to lead a selfless life for the benefit of the party.

Particularly, with the appointment of officers to support the elected constituency executives, Chairman Antwi Boasiako indicated that the era where appointments were made based on friendship rather than competence, should be a thing of the past.

According to him, past experiences had shown that the abysmal grassroots membership mobilization was due the the problem of cronyism in appointing officers to augment the works of the elected executives at the constituencies.

This time, he said, the party will not countenance tendencies that will lead the party to opposition.

He said this during day 3 of his thank you tour to the constituencies of the region, where he has been receiving endorsement of the constituencies.

So far, 39 constituencies have declared support for Chairman Wontumi, citing several reasons including his selfless and visionary leadership as attributes that compelled them to declare support.
