VIDEO: We Have Enough Maize At Techiman And We Want Buyers

An aide to the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Andy Owusu, has lashed out at the National Chairman of Ghana National Association of Poultry Farmers (GNAPF) and Chairman of the Brong Ahafo Regional Poultry Farms Association, for peddling falsehood that there has been acute shortage of maize on the market.

Mr. David Ampofo, who is the Chairman of the Brong Ahafo Regional Poultry Farms Association is reported to have said he foresees his 150,000 birds dying, because there is no maize to feed them with.

He is also on record to have blamed the the Minister of Food and Agriculture Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto for worsening the plights of poultry farmers by ignoring their calls.

“In this business, maize constitutes more than 50% of feed for birds. The rest of the meal is basically soya beans, fish and some vitamin additions.

If the price of maize keeps rising, his business will continue to sink.”

"When your maize finishes all your birds will die," said the Chairman of the Brong Ahafo Regional Poultry Farms Association revealed.

But in a video posted by a maize trader from the Techiman market, the trader is heard responding to the allegation by stating that: “We have maize in abundance here. This is white corn and that is yellow corn. We want buyers and we are not getting them; yet you sit at the top and you say we don’t have maize in Ghana.”

The purpose of his recording according as stated by him, is to counter statements by the National Chairman of Ghana National Association of Poultry Farmers (GNAPF) and Chairman of the Brong Ahafo Regional Poultry Farms Association on their view on ‘maize shortage’.

“Are you bent on destroying our business? he quizzes and adds that “We have maize here in the Techiman market so I can hardly understand the call by those saying there is shortage on the market. The government has done nothing wrong. Just come and have a look at the maize we have stored here”, he said.
