A 34 year old man has been put before Accra Circuit Court for allegedly inserting his fingers into an 18 year old boy’s anus and holding his manhood at Ashalley Botwe, a suburb in Accra.
Baffour Nketiah Sarpong, a National Service Personnel with Madina Municipal Assembly, charged with indecent assault pleaded not guilty.
Sarpong after the act is alleged to have branded the victim as a robber to the Police because the 18 year old had smashed Sarpong’s head with a lady’s high heel shoe and was bleeding as a result of that.
The court presided over by Mrs Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku has admitted Sarpong to bail in the sum of GH 8,000 cedis with one surety to reappear on June 5.
This was after Mr Emmanuel Asare counsel for Sarpong had prayed the court for bail saying that under Article 19 (2) accused was presumed innocent until he is proven guilty by the court.
Chief Inspector Agatha Asantewaa, prosecuting told the court that the complainant name withheld is a student residing at East Legon with his grandmother.
The prosecution said Sarpong and the victim attend the same church in Madina and the two have been friends for the past one year.
Prosecution said the victim took Sarpong as his role model and he has learned a lot from him (Sarpong) and that the two have been chatting via Whatzapp.
Chief Inspector Asantewaa said in one of the chats, Sarpong who has been advising him to learn hard, told the victim that he did not have relations or friends who assisted him in life so he resorted to having anal sex for fees.
The prosecution said Sarpong told the victim that if he wanted to make it in life then he should take up gayism, “sakawa” aka money rituals, or armed robbery.
Following those comments, prosecution said the victim distanced himself from Sarpong.
However on March 12, this year, the victim sent a message to the accused and he (the accused) responded with a phone call.
On the phone, prosecution said, Sarpong told the victim that he has some discussion with him hence directed the victim to his house at Ashalley Botwe.
In the house, prosecution said Sarpong offered the victim food to eat but he declined. Accused however ate his food and went to lie on his bed.
Soon after, prosecution said Sarpong invited the victim to come and massage him. In the process, Sarpong held the victim’s penis and inserted his fingers into his anus.
Prosecution said Sarpong and the victim engaged in a struggle and in the process, the victim pulled out ladies high heel shoe and hit Sarpong in the head.
Sarpong who began to bleed left his room and informed neighbours that the victim was an armed robber. A Good Samaritan however called in the Police who arrived at the scene and escorted Sarpong and the victim to Lakeside Community eight Police station.
Prosecution said following a petition to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) Sarpong was arrested and in his caution statement he denied the offence.
