NDC Chairman Assaulted Over Branch Elections

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Yaw Obimpeh, has reportedly been assaulted by an aggrieved member of the party at Oforikrom Constituency.

Ivan Bilson Yeboah, a communicator of the party in the Oforikrom Constituency, was said to have pounced on the NDC Regional Chairman during a recent crunch meeting.

Reports indicated that other regional executives at the meeting stopped Ivan from beating Mr Obimpeh mercilessly.

Ivan Bilson, according to reports, took the weird action due to the confusion that has rocked the NDC branch elections at Oforikrom Constituency in the newly-created Oforikrom Municipality.

According to reports, the NDC Communicator expressed dissatisfaction with the party’s decision to allow one Henry Osei Akoto to contest for the branch chairmanship position in Oforikrom.

The meeting, party’s sources hinted, was going on smoothly but suddenly, Ivan Bilson lost his temper and pounced on Yaw Obimpeh, who was immediately saved by other executives.

Other sources alleged that Ivan Bilson, who was angry and panting, punched the Ashanti Regional NDC Chairman several times before he was eventually restrained by other party executives.

Raymond Tandoh, the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NDC, who confirmed the incident, claimed the executives acted swiftly to prevent Ivan Bilson from punching the NDC chairman.

He told Nhyira FM that the party’s disciplinary committee had decided to suspend Ivan Bilson indefinitely for attempting to beat Mr Obimpeh during the meeting.

According to him, the swift punitive action taken by the party’s disciplinary committee in the region would send a stern warning to the party’s members in the region to act appropriately.

Speaking to the same radio station, the Oforikrom Constituency Chairman of the NDC, Alhaji Yakubu Seidu, confirmed that indeed Ivan Bilson had been suspended by the party due to his violent conduct.

“I have personally handed the suspension letter, which was authored by the party’s disciplinary committee at the regional level, to Ivan Bilson,” he disclosed, adding that the violent action taken by the party member was unfortunate.

Another stalwart of the NDC in the region, Alhaji Tapsoba, condemned the action of Ivan Bilson, and urged the NDC regional executives to be bold and quickly resolve the numerous problems.
