Kweku Baako Demands Release Of Documents On Mobile Money Interoperability Contracts

The Editor-In-Chief of New Crusading Guide, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako has called for the release to the public, contract documents on Ghana's Mobile Money Interoperability service.

He said all attempts to secure the documents have proven fruitless.

According to him, by releasing the documents the citizenry will have a fair knowledge of the deal.

He added that the entire conversation on the deal will be presumptuous if the commentators do not have all information on the contracts.

Speaking on Accra based Joy FM’s news analysis programme, “Newsfile” on Saturday, Mr  Baako said although he supports the argument for engaging a local company to do the job, it would be unfair to conclude without having the benefit of all the facts.

“If we have a local entity we can empower to undertake this project, that’s a preferable option. I am persuaded by that argument,” Mr Baako told host Samson Lardy Anyenini on Joy FM.

The deal has come under the spotlight with many criticising the previous government for inflating the cost of the project.

The deal, signed under the previous administration, was to cost 4.6 billion cedis but was abrogated by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) when it assumed office.

The contract was then awarded to the Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems Limited (GHIPSS) who executed the project for 4.6 million dollars.
