We’ll Fight Back- Warns Police

The Director General in-charge of Police Intelligence & Professional Standard Bureau, COP Nathan Kofi Boakye, has warned that any person or group of persons who attack the police will be met with the necessary action.

According to him, the police will not sit aloof for any group of person(s) to attack them and go scot free

“Henceforth, we shall also protect ourselves for if we are not able to protect ourselves, how can we protect others,” he added while expressing the police view of the recent attacks on personnel and police stations recently.

He reiterated that the police will not shield any policeman who commits an offence, adding that about 50 percent of personnel reported to Police Intelligence & Professional Standards Bureau for misconduct have been dealt with.

“Some have been interdicted while others are still facing the law courts, others have had their ranks reduced while others are still facing service enquiry,” COP Boakye revealed.

At a press conference held at the police headquarters in Accra to brief the media on police operations for the first quarter, COP Boakye explained that the police administration has plans of establishing PIPS offices in all the regions.

“This will give other individuals with complaints on personnel the opportunity to report their cases without having to travel to Accra and Kumasi to make complaints,” he hinted.

COP Kofi Boakye averred that they are in the process of acquiring toll free lines for the public to report their complainants to the bureau.

The Director in-charge of Operations at the Criminal Investigations Department, ACP Joseph Oklu Gyamera, disclosed that greater Accra and Ashanti Regions topped in robbery cases for the first quarter of this year.

He said a total of 484 robbery cases were recorded in the entire region in the first quarter of the year but out of the number, Accra recorded 191 cases while Ashanti Region also recorded 123 cases.

“On murder cases, Ashanti Region recorded the highest with 29 cases for the first quarter, with the highest recorded in April.

On narcotics, Accra and Ashanti also topped with 49 cases.

He pointed out that the unit has plans to increase intelligence unit in all the regions, starting from Accra Region to help bring down crime rate.
