Youth queens celebrate International Day of Advocacy for Women's Health

The youth queens of the GaDangme Muslim Council have marked the International Day of Advocacy for Women’s Health with medical screening and lecture on mental health in Nima and its environs.

The Day is marked every year on May 28 to empower women and girls to access affordable quality care as their invaluable rights.

The occasion brought together some members of the GaDangme Community and opinion leaders to discuss issues relating to the improvement of women’s health in the country.

Ms Khadijah Ibrahim, the Youth Queen of Abokobi, said the celebration was to educate the participants to live a much healthier life as “Health is Wealth.”

She urged participants to adopt positive approaches to life as an example for the younger generation to emulate.

Dr Naomi Adusu, a Medical Officer of the Point Herbal Centre, during a public lecture, urged the public to use only approved herbal medicines to promote healthy lifestyles.

Hajia Fati Mahmoud Wattigi, the Youth Queen of Darkuman and a Nursing Officer at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital, said due to the bad perception of psychiatric patients, most people suffering from mental disorders became traumatised before they were sent to the hospital.

She said there was the need to visit a health facility at least once in every three months to ensure early detection and diagnosis of infectious diseases.
