We’ll Fix Your Water Challenges - Bawumia Assures Salaga Residents

The Vice-President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has assured the chiefs and the people of the East Gonja municipality in the Northern Region of the government’s commitment to solve the perennial water crisis in the area in fulfilment of the governing New Patriotic Party’s (NPP’s) 2016 main campaign promise.

“The Managing Director of the Ghana Water Company Limited, Dr Clifford Braimah, who hails from this area, is currently putting in significant measures to address the problem as a matter of urgency,” the Vice-President said.

The East Gonja municipality has faced perennial water crisis over the years, forcing residents, including students, to walk many kilometres each day in search of water.

Event

Dr Bawumia gave an assurance last Sunday when he paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of the Kpembe Traditional Area, Kpembewura Bismark Haruna Daari, at his palace in Salaga as part of his (Dr Bawumia’s) Ramadan tour of the Northern Region.

Road network

He said the deplorable Tamale-Salaga road would be constructed this year.

“This road I plied on from Tamale to Salaga is a major concern to your good friend, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and it is one of the roads the government will work on.

“At a Cabinet meeting last week, the Tamale-Salaga road, among other roads across the country, was identified for construction this year,” he stated.

Dr Bawumia said the many interventions by the government in the past 18 months were aimed at enhancing the living standards of Ghanaians, especially the youth.

“You predicted a landmark victory for President Akufo-Addo in the 2016 general election and it did happen. We are very grateful for your prayers and support. We are still urging you and your elders to continue to pray and counsel the government to enable it to achieve its goals,” he said.

Commendation

For his part, the Kpembewura commended the government for working hard and delivering on its promises and pledged his commitment to support it to bring the needed development to the municipality.
