PPP Raises Concern Over 110 Ministers

THE PROGRESSIVE People’s Party (PPP) has expressed gross concern over the 110 appointees in the Akufo-Addo-led government.

According to them, the number of appointees in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government is too big and as a result it could lead to excessive pressure on the economy in terms of remunerating the 110 ministers.

In this regard, the PPP has urged President Akufo-Addo to reduce the size of his government with immediate effect to help save national coffers and also bring efficiency to his government.

Muntala Mohammed, a leading member of the PPP, made the appeal to the President. He was delivering his party’s fraternal message during the NPP’s annual National Delegates’ Conference on Saturday in Koforidua.

According to him, a lot of Ghanaians are happy about several initiatives of the NPP administration, including the famous free SHS programme, which has increased enrolment in SHS.

Mohammed stated that “Ghanaians are happy about the free SHS policy because it has several benefits for the state and we are also appealing to your government to add the compulsory aspect of the policy”.

He continued: “Please, Ghanaians are also not happy about the alarming 110 ministers in your government and so they are appealing to you to, as a matter of urgency, reduce the number of ministers to help save the national purse”.

The PPP official, who touched on a lot of pressing national issues, also saluted the NPP government for introducing the Ghana card, which would ensure that all Ghanaians are registered and issued with identity cards.

“We are happy about the Ghana card system so please ignore the propaganda and concentrate on introducing it since that policy will surely bring about several benefits and also expedite national transformation”, he stressed.

Muntala Mohammed also charged President Akufo-Addo to parry away pressure from his party members (the NPP) and rather push for the election of MMDCEs in the country to help boost development at the grass root level.

Under the theme: ‘NPP Building a Stronger Party-Delivering Prosperity to Ghanaians’, the historic programme was used by the NPP to elect their next batch of national executives to manage the affairs of the party for four years.

The crème-de-la-crème in the NPP including President Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former President John Agyekum Kufuor and ministers of state, among others, were present at the conference.
