Assemblyman offers free NHIS for community members

More than 500 people in the Essikafoambantem /Antem electoral area in the Cape Coast constituency were on Thursday registered under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) free of charge as they massively turned up for the exercise. This was made possible through the benevolence of the assemblyman for the area, Nana Kweku Awuku who told newsmen that it was in appreciation of the massive support the people showed for him in the past seven years as their assemblyman. He said apart from paying for the insurance scheme for the people, he has also single-handedly undertaken a number of development projects such as the construction of a 20-seater KVIP and a six-classroom block for the Antem community. Nana Awuku who is also the Presiding Member (PM) of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly, said he has also provided street light for his electoral area, while excursions are organized annually for school children, and educational materials given them to help improve educational standards in the area. Some people told the GNA after they had been registered that they were unable to afford the premium for the NHIS and were full of praise for the Assemblyman for his benevolence that had enabled them to be part of the scheme.
