Young Ghanaians Benefit From YMCA/WELTFILME Initiative

All on board project, a project initiated by a German based NGO has embarked on a 5-day workshop at the Ghana Young Men Christian Association [YMCA] center in Accra, Ghana to enhance the knowledge of young people to promote “Media for Peace” campaign through writing, directing and producing fictional and documentary films.

The project at its Phase 1 stage included twelve (12) young people from Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone, trained by media and film Experts.

Primary purpose of the exercise is to train and educate people in countries of development cooperation in visual media production and to upgrade the skills of up-coming media producers.

The initiative is implemented in partnership with YMCA-Ghana, a Ghanaian based NGO set up to enhance the development of the minds, bodies and spirit of young people to make them productive and useful citizens and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and Bread for the World.

Recognizing the power of films in effecting change in society, WELTFILME.org in partnership with YMCA Ghana has again initiated phase 2 of the ALL ON BOARD project (OB2) dubbed “Training of Trainees”.

The training will commence on the 23rd of July until the 31st of August 2018 at the YMCA Halls in Koforidua in the Eastern Region and Accra.

The project will bring together the already trained twelve (12) young filmmakers (trainers) and twenty-one (21) aspiring filmmakers (trainees) drawn from Sierra Leone, Ghana and Liberia.

Furthermore, the trainees together with their respective trainers will have the opportunity to develop and produce short films on the situation of the youth particularly on issues of discrimination and abuse in their respective countries.

Executive Director of YMCA, Mr. Kwabena Nketia Ghana has pledged to sustain the project by ensuring the best ever media network is established in the West African Sub Region.
