Are We Fully Prepared For This Double-Track System? – NDC MP Asks Govt.

NDC Member of Parliament (MP) for Afram Plains South constituency in the Eastern Region, Hon. Eric Osei Owusu has said that the free Senior High School [SHS] is a unique programme that needs not to be politicized in any way.

Rather, the problem with it is the manner in which it has been implemented.

“Let us put aside the propagandist aspect of wanting to create the impression as if all is well when it is completely the other way round. We must plan this programme well for once or suffer the consequences forever as a country,” he stated.

In an interview on UTV’s ‘Adekye Nsroma’ programme, Hon. Osei Owusu affirmed that the current state of public SHS’s is not as can be boasted of some years ago.

He said Ghana had the best public SHS system that most countries talked about, envied and made reference to, but what are we seeing today.

According to him, this current government led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has greatly disappointed Ghanaians based on their promise of solidly protecting private sector jobs and providing more.

“This free SHS initiative has just pushed aside private senior high schools that citizens have heavily invested into to strengthen secondary education. I believe government could have considered their sector to also be part of the policy in a form of widening private sector jobs than leaving it to collapse,” he stated.

Hon. Eric Osei Owusu furiously lamented he is much worried and always believes the free SHS policy could have been properly implemented to curb the numerous confusion.

“How prepared are we to face this double-track system in addition to the already challenging free SHS policy. Are we at all prepared for this shift system? What arrangements have been made so far for infrastructure, teachers, finances and the likes that will be needed to make the process a success or we are just interested in a try and error approach than a detailed prepared plan,” he asked host Tweneboah Koduah.
