Steven Seagal has been named as special envoy to the US by Russia in order to remedy relations between the two nations in the field of humanities between Moscow and Washington, two years after the movie star was granted Russian citizenship in 2016.

In an announcement posted on the Foreign Ministry’s Facebook page, Steven Seagal will take on this unpaid position to focus on culture and the arts, despite having vocally criticised the US government in the past and defended Vladimir Putin’s annexation of Crimea in 2014.
