The NDC has had 16 years in this Fourth Republic to implement FSHS but failed to do so. However, as part of its broader agenda to increase Ghana’s productive capacity, the NPP under Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has elected to cut to the chase, by implementing universal access to second cycle education (FSHS).

Instead of NPP’s urgent approach to FSHS, and education as a critical component of development to inspire the NDC, it has rather engendered a blanket obstruction to everything FSHS. As a result, the NDC flags every normal and necessary adjustment to enhance the success of FSHS, as a setback.

The point of the NDC’s obstruction of FSHS has one central objective, and that is to undermine, minimize and muddy any positive political outcomes for the NPP. The scheme would not succeed because Ghanaians appreciate the manifest commitment, sacrifice and the boldness of the NPP to implement FSHS in the present difficult economic climate. Indeed, Ghanaians know that the NDC merely kicked the can down the road, and the NPP has come to fix it hence, they would not fall for the propaganda to bastardized FSHS.

The truth is that, the NDC will not admit that, there is never going to be an ideal time or year where everything will line up perfectly for the progressive implementation of FSHS. Additionally, the NDC will also not admit that, while they wait for the progressive implementation of FSHS, thousands of Ghanaians who are faced with financial difficulties are being denied access to education.

Indeed, the NDC will not admit to anything including, its obstructive scheme to frustrate the implementation of FSHS. But the scheme is so transparent the world has seen through it. For, it is a curious sight to behold, social democrats arguing spiritedly against the manifest interest of the masses. This is antithetical to the fundamental or established socialist disposition to say the least.

We in the NPP must be inspired, endure and fight to ensure the success of FSHS because it the hope of thousands today, and millions in the future.
There is no arguing the fact, FSHS is a good national policy. So, the NPP must continue to advocate the position that, FSHS is not a luxury policy that could wait, to be subjected to the progressive implementation timetable of the NDC. For us, FSHS is a time-sensitive as well as a development necessity that requires urgent implementation, now.
