NDC Flagbearer Race: Kwabena Duffuor’s Posters Pop Up

MyNewsGh.com has sighted campaign posters of former Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr Kwabena Duffuor literally announcing his intention to contest as the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress ahead of the 2020 polls.

The posters with an image of the founder, president and adviser of House of Duffuor Assets (HODA) Holdings with the slogan “Experience Competence Vision NDC 2020” have since gone viral.

We are unable to independently verify if this is not one of the many social media hoaxes or it is just a means of flying the kite to test his popularity before he officially notifies the party of his intention to run.

But it would be recalled that in January last year, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor rubbished media reports suggesting he would be contesting in the 2020 Presidential Elections to be elected as president of Ghana.

The former Finance Minister under Former President John Atta Mills’ administration said he has retired from active politics – thus, has no intentions of becoming a president of this country.

“For the avoidance of any doubt, I wish to put on record that I have no intention, whatsoever, to contest for any elective public office,” a statement he released read.

If the posters making the rounds are anything to go by, then the Dr Duffuor may have been pressured by supporters to make a sudden u-turn from his earlier position having served the country in various capacities he himself admitted and said he considers himself a statesman who is retired from active politics.

Meanwhile, 6 persons who have expressed interest in leading the NDC ahead of the 2020 polls.

So far Professor Joshua Alabi, Mr. Sylvester Mensah, Mr. Alban Bagbin and Dr. Ekow Spio Garbrah have all announced their intentions to contest the presidential candidacy of the opposition NDC including Mr. Stephen Atubiga.

If it turns out Dr Duffuor’s intentions are confirmed it would bring to 7 the number of persons seeking to lead the umbrella family with dark clouds over whether or not former President John Dramani Mahama may be running.
