NDC Chair Race: "I’m Not Stepping Down . . . I Want To Be In The Driving Seat" - Ofosu Ampofo

Vice National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo has indicated that he will not step down for any individual to contest the National Chairman position in the party.

Speaking to host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' programme, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo called on the delegates to give him the nod to lead the party stating emphatically "I have the strength, the tenacity, the capacity, the ability; both intellectually and practically to be able to lead the NDC”.

He was responding to claims by some members of the party who think that he has to bow out of the contest to perhaps give way to fresh blood to lead the party.

But according to Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo, he is the right candidate to clinch victory for the NDC and therefore urged the party not to make a mistake of rejecting him during the elections.

He stressed that he has over the years worked relentlessly and so his time to sit in the driving seat of the party is now.

“I’m not stepping down for anybody. This is my time. I’ve worked. I’ve gotten the experience. I’ve what it takes to lead the NDC party to recapture power from the NPP . . .I want to be in the driving seat and steer the party, and drive the party to victory. And with God on my side, I believe I’m very useful," he stated.

Mr. Ofosu Ampofo also debunked claims that he is incompetent to conduct credible internal elections as Director of Elections for the party and so cannot lead the NDC as its National Chairman.

Responding to his critics, he asserted that "People don’t even know what they’re talking about because results collation itself, it’s done at the constituency level…And whatever results we collated at the constituency is what is transmitted to the national and so, if at the national and someone brings you the results; you’re not a magician to determine whether what they’re bringing is wrong or. That is what you put together”.

Giving his credentials, Mr. Ofosu Ampofo told host Kwami Sefa Kayi that he has been "part of national elections at the national Secretariat from 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016. And if you want to talk about somebody who has experience in the election management system, having been on IPAC for almost 16 years; been part of all the reforms that the Electoral Commission has made and then someone sends a message that Ofosu Ampofo could not collate a single result, they don’t know what they’re talking about”.
