EC’s Limited Registration Exercise Proceeds Smoothly

The limited Voters Registration exercise commenced on Sunday in the Western Region with a call on all who have attained age 18 to take advantage of the process and register.

The registration, which is occurring across all the selected districts offices of the commission, would last for ten days.

The selected districts are Aowin, Suaman, Bibiani, Sefwi Wiawso, Akontombra, Juaboso, Bodi, Bia East and Bia West located in the North of the Western Region.

Mr Stephen Opoku -Mensah, the Regional Director of EC, told the Ghana News Agency that it is a limited registration to allow those who are 18 years and above and who have not registered to do so to enable them vote in the forthcoming referendum.

The referendum would give impetus to the creation of new regions and any such issues that bordered on the constitution.

He said persons wishing to take part in the process must be a citizen of Ghana, 18 years and above, sound mind, residents of the area with proven of eligibility as Ghanaian passport, Ghana Card, driver's licence, Previous voter ID card before 2012.

Mr Opoku Mensah said individuals who did not have the above requirement would need two guarantors with one guarantor not guaranteeing for more than five people.

He said 200 new electoral areas would be created in addition to the existing 544 in the region to ensure effective political administration and development.
