GIBA Should Stop Spreading “Misinformation, Falsehoods & Lies” - Ursula Owusu

Communications Minister, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has cautioned members of the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA) to desist from misinforming the public on StarTimes Satellite TV project with the government of Ghana.

According to her, the association must be well abreast with issues before making any utterances that is meant to spread deceit.

GIBA should stop spreading misinformation, falsehoods and lies. They should stop misinterpreting me to the public” she said in an interview with PEACE FM’s morning show ‘Kokrokoo’.

Ursula’s comment comes after GIBA lamented that the new agreement between the government and StarTimes dubbed Access to Satellite TV for 300 Villages in Ghana Project’ will be inconsistent with a roadmap for Ghana’s Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) migration.

She noted that GIBA and other stakeholders who have raised issues with the deal have failed to clearly point out what their real concerns are, leaving her with doubts as to what really the issues are.

She stressed that GIBA, irrespective of whatever their position on the matter is, cannot compel government to take certain actions simply because they (GIBA) have said so.

The ‘300 village satellite TV project’, according to Ursula will benefit 6,000 households drawn from 300 villages nationwide.

The project is aimed at helping “our citizens to access TV information on national and international events and programmes that would educate and inform them; hence increasing their awareness and knowledge to improve their welfare,”
