Government has announced that the producer price of GH¢7,600 per tonne of cocoa for the 2017/2018 crop season has been maintained for this season.

Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto made this known yesterday in Accra at a grand durbar to mark the 2018 edition of Cocoa Day Celebration, which was held at the forecourt of the State House under the theme, “Cocoa Consumption – Business and Health.”

He stated that this would translate into GH¢475 per bag of cocoa for the current season, adding that the price takes effect from today.”

The minister said the price was maintained to reduce the drastic impact of the reduction in the price of cocoa on the world market.

According to the minister, cocoa continues to play a critical role in the socioeconomic development of the country.

The minister indicated that government was taking steps to revive the country’s cocoa sector.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Joseph Boahen-Aidoo, in a statement, encouraged Ghanaians to consume more cocoa products.

He indicated that cocoa has anti-ageing properties and can fight against diabetes, cancer, hypertension, among others.
