Idikoko Elected As New FIPAG President

Movie producer and renowned Ghanaian actor noted for starring in light hearted movies, Mr. Augustine Abbey known in movie circles as �The Great Idikoko�, has been elected as the new president of the Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG). The election of new executives for the association which was organized and monitored by five officials from the Electoral Commission of Ghana took place at the Musician Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), headquarters in Accra, on Friday, January 8, 2010. The balloting attracted over hundred delegates made up of mainly movie producers and other key stakeholders in the movie industry from all over the country. Mr. Godwin Nii Koi Kotey competed with Mr. Augustine Abbey (Idikoko) for the presidency, Mr. Richard Quatey and Mr. Akwasi Nyamekye (Miracle Films) vied for the Vice President position, Mr. Stanley S.S Sackey and Mr James Aboagye for Secretary, Mr Socrates Sarfo (Movie Africa) and Mr Billy Anyouni went for the Public Relation Officer (P.R.O) position whiles three members Mr. Michael Afrannie, Mr Eric Asante and Kwaku Twumasi stood for the executive member position. After a very transparent, free and fair election, Idikoko emerged as the president elect, Mr Richard Quartey (Vice President), Mr Stanley S.S. Sackey (Secretary), Socrates Sarfo (P.R.O) and Mr. Michael Afrannie and Kwaku Twumasi where elected as the two executive members. Meanwhile, Mr Bob Smith Jr. (Diaboloman) Assistant Secretary, Madam Helen Omaboe (Treasurer) and Mr. Ashangbor Akwaitey Kanyi (Financial Secretary) stood unopposed. They were duly declared as the newly elected executives by the E.C officials. The Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG) has been in existence for about two decades now and this is the first ever general elections held successfully since its formation. The late Kofi Yirenkyi was the first president who was succeeded by outgoing president Mr. Mohammed Gado. The other outgoing executives include B.M. Moro (Vice President), Stanley Tarckie (Secretary), Richard Quatey (Vice Secretary), Akwaitey Kanyi (P.R.O), Hammond Mensah (Treasurer), Augustine Abbey (Assistant Treasurer) and Hajia Mei Zongo and Kofi Owusu (Executive Members).
